“I’ll be out of town this weekend babe. Sorry I can’t accompany you to Jea’s party this weekend. Tell her I’ll buy her something nice okay?” Kwon pecked his girlfriend’s forehead and smiled apologetically at her.
“It’s okay babe. She’ll understand. It’s your job right?” She smiled warmly at him; not wanting him to feel bad.
“Thank you. Thank you for being such an understanding girlfriend.” He said sincerely and kissed her.
It wasn’t the first time he had missed something important to her. He had missed her family’s gathering, her promotion party and even her sister’s birthday before but she always kept her faith in him. She knew that he would have been there if he had a choice.
Although they are more often apart than together, Gain trusted her boyfriend to not do things that will break them. She trusted him to still be with her emotionally wherever he goes and that’s how it has been for the past three years of their relationship.
She’ll be lying if she says that there aren’t some days when she wished he wasn’t the pilot he was. There are also those times when people would come up to her and tell her how lucky she is that she has such a good looking boyfriend who has a good job and how she’ll just smiled politely and thank them for complimenting Kwon.
But do they understand how hard it is to be in love with someone who’s barely there?
Gain checked the calendar and saw that their 38th month together was coming up in three days time.
Will he be here to celebrate our monthsary?
She tried not to think about what happened on their 37th month.
“But captain..I..today..” Kwon tried talking but was constantly interrupted.
He sighed after hanging up his phone and turned to Gain who was sitting prettily besides him in his car all dressed up in her pretty black dress for their supposedly romantic dinner.
“Let me guess. You have to work right?” She said.
“I’m so sorry babe. Khun got sick so I have to replace him. I’ll make it up to you okay?” He grabbed her hand and gave it a light squeeze.
“It’s okay babe. Just send me back okay? We’ll just have dinner when you get back.” She tried not to sound too disappointed.
He flashed her an apologetic smile and started driving in the opposite direction back to her house.
-End Of Flashback-
Gain placed the calendar back to its original place and randomly checked her phone for any text messages and saw her wallpaper which is a photo of Kwon kissing her forehead in bed. She grazed the screen and smiled sadly to herself.
I miss you.
K: Hey babe, what are you doing?
G: I’m just recovering from the week. What are you doing?
K: I’m resting too.
G: When are you coming back babe? I miss you.
K: I don’t know. Maybe next week. I miss you too sweetheart.
G: You’re gonna miss our monthsary again?
K: I’m sorry. I wish I could come back sooner.
G: It’s okay.
K: I’m really sorry. I love you.
G: Love you too.
Gain just sighed at the disappointing text message he just sent her.
I guess it’s another lonely monthsary.
“Why is he always working? It’s your monthsary. He should atleast come back.” Miryo said; annoyance clearly visible in her voice.
“It’s alright Miryo..I’m fine. It’s work so he can’t really do anything about it.” Gain tried to cool down her friend.
“Aish Gain ah..I don’t know how you can handle this kind of relationship for three years.” Miryo patted her friend’s back.
“I love him and I trust him and although that may not be enough all the time; it’s still enough to remind me that he’s the love of my life.” Gain told her in all honesty.
Gain woke up on her 38th monthsary to a phone call from Kwon.
She hastily picked it up only to hear sounds of people chit chatting with each other.
“Ya Jo Kwon! This ring is gorgeous!” Gain heard Sunye, Kwon’s ex-girlfriend; squealed in delight.
“I picked it up myself. You like it?” He asked her excitedly.
What ring? Kwon..WHAT RING??!
“Ah..I think I accidentally called someone..” She heard Kwon told Sunye before he hung up the call.
Gain was shocked by what she just heard. First he said he wasn’t going to be in town and now suddenly there’s the ring issue.
Suddenly, all the talks about trust and faith left her completely and she felt like crying just thinking about the possibility of him cheating on her with Sunye. The more she thought about it, the more paranoid she felt because of the fact that Sunye was his first love and she knew how hard it was for him to get over her.
Are you really cheating on me?
Kwon lightly brushed off the dust from his shoulder and pressed the doorbell. He smiled unconsciously thinking about what he had prepared. There weren’t many moments in their relationship when he felt satisfied with himself but he was satisfied that night.
You’ll see exactly how much you mean to me, baby.
Gain opened the door with red, swollen eyes.
“Happ..” His smile instantly washed off when he saw her.
“What’s wrong babe?” He approached her and attempted to hug her.
“Don’t touch me!” She moved away from him.
“Gain…?” He was confused at her sudden coldness.
“Go Kwon. Go to your Sunye and your ring and your whatever.” She said spitefully.
“Sunye?? What are you talking about babe? There’s nothing between me and Sunye.”
“Don’t lie to me! I heard what you said to her this morning when you accidentally called me. You even bought her a ring and you’re still trying to deny it??”
Kwon chuckled at her statement.
“You’re even laughing about it. I didn’t think you were this kind of person Kwon.” She said sadly.
“I thought you were different…” She continued.
“I can’t believe this..”
“Gain listen. I didn’t cheat on you. True, I was with Sunye this morning and true, I did get a ring but it’s not what you think. I only lied when I told you that I was working today which I’m clearly not.” He started explaining.
“Then why did you buy that ring?” She asked; trying to calm herself.
He took a small box out of his pocket and stared at it.
“I’ve been waiting all my life for someone to give me something to believe in and for someone who loves me regardless of whatever and since we first started dating until now, you did exactly all those things. You make me believe in love and in us and you make me feel loved even when I’m miles away from you and that makes me even more head over heels in love with you, Gain.” He confessed; looking up and staring deep into her eyes.
She just stood there listening to his every word; shocked at what he was saying.
“I know I haven’t been the best boyfriend to you and I know that I’ve let you down so many times before but if you’ll let me, I’m willing to spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
“So I’m asking you Son Gain; will you marry me?” He asked her sincerely.
Gain kept silent for awhile. She was shocked at this sudden proposal. Sure, she had anticipated the day that he would finally popped the question but to have it happening for real right then felt like a moment out of a fairytale.
“Babe..?” He snapped her back to reality.
“I…I don’t know what to say.”
“You can say yes and make me the happiest man on Earth.” He said; his eyes full of hope.
She bit her lower lip and smiled shyly at him.
His face lit up upon hearing her answer. He wrapped his hands around her waist and kissed her passionately.
“Thank you.” He smiled at her.
“I bought this when I was in France. I was scared that you won’t like it so I asked for a second opinion from Sunye. I swear that you’re the only one I love Gain.” He told her; opening the small box to reveal the ring that he had bought a week earlier.
He took the ring out of its box and put it on her ring finger.
She smiled shyly and stared at the ring on her finger.
“Hmm?” Gain looked up to him.
“Happy 38th monthsary.” He flashed her a smile and kissed her softly.
